Description
Up for auction is a super rare copy of the hard-to-find Randy Weston album "Trio And Solo" (with Art Blakey) originally released on Riverside Records in 1956. This is a guaranteed, early mono pressing (probably an early second pressing--no "Inc." on label) record, with an original and rare first pressing cover with the correct "418 West 49th Street New York 19, N.Y." address on the back.
Cover is in beautiful condition, retaining its original high gloss lamination, with no ring wear or losses. Minor spot of curling along open edge on right, but hard to see. No bubbling or chipping. Corners are sharp, though upper right has minor bump and lower right has very minor rubbing. Seams are strong and intact, no splits or cracking. Spine is nice, lettering clean. Back is very clean, bone white, as it should be, no age discoloration to speak of, no ring wear, no writing. Does have a factory inspection stamp in upper right. Correct first printing address. Overall, a very attractive, well-preserved example of this cover. I'd grade this cover Near Mint Minus (NM-).
Vinyl is in very nice looking shape. Faces retain original high gloss shine. No obvious scratches or scuffs, though it does have a couple very faint pressing marks and a couple faint hairlines from taking the record in and out of original paper inner sleeve. Labels are bright and clean, only one very faint spindle trail. Very few signs of previous play and handling, well cared-for. I've play tested this record, and it generally sounds nice, though it does have some very minor surface noise that fades in and out, along with some very faint ticks here and there, though nothing obviously distracting from the wonderful music. Not audiophile clean, but still produces a nice full-bodied mono sound--and this record should be played in mono mode--as stereo mode tends to artificially exaggerate any imperfections in the pressing. Overall, I'd grade the vinyl as Excellent/Excellent Minus (EX/EX-).
