Description
Raoul Koczalski, born January 3, 1884 in Warsaw, Poland; died November 24, 1948 in Poznan, studied at Lviv Conservatory with Ludwig Marek and under Karol Mikuli, Chopin’s favorite Polish student and assistant. At the age of 7 he gave concerts and at 9 he was playing in major European cities as virtuoso. During the 1920s and 1930s he lived in Germany and toured in Italy, France and Poland. During the World War II he was interned in Berlin, in 1945 he went to live in Poznan, Poland, accepting a post as professor in the State Higher School of Music He was considered one of the greatest interpreters of Chopin's music and one of the greatest pianists of his time.
10" French HMV ( Disque Gramophone) DA 4430: Chopin, 3 Eccosaises op. 72 in G major, D flat major, D major and Mazurka in F major op. 68 No 3 / Nocturne in F sharp major op. 15 No 2, matrices ORA1906-2 and 1907-2, recorded 1938. Condition: 2 / 2, slight needle run
Koczalski made only 2 records on HMV DA ( 4430 and 4431 ). RARE !
Grading:
1 = mint, never played on gramophone, is not used
1-2 = top copy, no traces of use - virtually as new
2 = excellent copy, few light non-sounding rubs/marks
2-3 = light traces of wear (rubs/marks), very light greying and/or light scratches, non sounding blemishes
3 = a good average copy with more noticeable rubs and marks; light greying, few light scratches possible
3-4 = more traces of use, sonic wear from light greying. An inferior average copy, light scratches possible
4 = some sounding wear, heavier rubs and marks, scratches possible
5 = obvious sounding wear, heavy rubs, marks, scratches. An unsatisfactory copy.
