Hello again, fellow 78 buffs. I'm back after a three-year hiatus (just got laid off again !) with numerous lots of ten-each 1920's jazz and dance band 78's, along with some interesting singles I'll be listing over the next couple of weeks. There'll be at least some occasional jazz and scarce label items mixed into the multi-lots, and some nice jazz, blues, and hillbilly single listings, so be sure to scan them thoroughly to ensure that you don't miss out on something you need for your collection. Please bear with my sometimes lengthy item descriptions; I love these old records, and this is about the only place I get to talk about them ! I'll have the shipping total after the auction concludes (depending on combined shipping and/or your election of either Priority or Media Rate shipment), but I promise I'll keep shipping at no more than actual cost to us.
THE SMILER (Percy Wenrich): / AMERICAN FAVORITES - Medley: FRED VAN EPS (Banjo solo - Piano Acc.), on Princess 1064/5 from circa 1910-11. Along with its' predecessor Phonocut, Princess was one of the earliest vertical-cut disc records, manufactured for or even by the Sapphire Record & Talking Machine Co., which had it's headquarters in New York City's Metropolitan Tower. "The Smiler" (1907) was Tin Pan Alley/ragtime composer Wenrich's biggest hit. I don't have a way to play verticals, but it looks like a good strong VV+, with some light-to-medium scuffs and scratches which probably won't affect play significantly. The labels are a little faded and scuffed. Due to the record's rarity (and the remorse I know I'll have someday over not having kept this one when I finally get a player for verticals !), I have set a reasonably low reserve.
