On offer is the original first recording of Liza Lehmann's song cycle, In a Persian Garden, for four solo voices (soprano, contralto, tenor, and bass) with pianoforte accompaniment, based on Edward Fitzgerald's translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, the music composed by Liza Lehmann
Hubert Eisdel recorded the song cycle twice; once in May 1916 with HMV, a truncated version to fit onto 8 records, with Liza herself overseeing the production, and he was  joined by Agnes Nicholls, Edna Thornton and George Baker.
He sang it again in 1927 with Columbia records, 8 years after Liza died, this time an electrical recording. This is the original 1916 mechanical (acoustic) recording with all 8 records in its original album, with booklet.  The order of the records is quite unusual, running from HMV 04168 to HMV 04174, though not all in numerical order ,and one of the records is a 10" whereas the others are 12".

Checking online (I can't post link here, ebay tells me, but a quick search should bring it up) shows that there were sold in this unusual order, and that the 10" is part of the set. As some were priced individually, I wonder if people bought the album and filled it up with individual purchases?  That's only a guess . Anyway, the set is complete!  The discs are in very good condition (that's not a formal classification, just my assessment) and looked perfect when I first examined them, but some show a few very fine superficial marks and "dots". Please see photos where I've tried to show them.  The booklet is very fragile, but holding together. The album cover is detached but the album still holds all the records and is intact but fragile.  Also included is the Columbia recording so you can compare it to the original version. I'm not sure if this single record is part of a set or not.  Please watch / listen to my (low quality) recording of a couple of the records playing so you will have a better idea of the quality of the sound, which in my opinion is full and clear. This is a very rare and sought-after collection. The last sale I can find online for this album was in 2006, and that was an incomplete set.  The video link may need to be copied and pasted into a new window. Thanks for looking.
