Description
"Captain Midnight" Radio Show Transcription Disc. One Complete 15 Minute Radio Program On This 16 inch, black lacquer acetate, 33 1/3 rpm disc. This disc was recorded for reference purposes only and not available to the general public, very rare
“Captain Midnight” radio program from March 26, 1948 titled “The Jewels of The Queen Of Sheeba”. In this episode, Captain Midnight gets into a dogfight with “Wolfgang” the ex-Nazi Pilot. Captain Midnight also shows Chuck the original ring that King Solomon gave to The Queen Of Sheeba.
Program includes commercials for Ovaltine – and there’s a secret message read in code by the announcer about the next episode. After the adventure, kids are to have a pencil and paper for the “Secret Squadron Signal Session”, where the announcer will read off numbers which reveal a clue about the next episode: Announcer: “Now set the hidden master code setting to your new “Miro-Magic Code-a-graph for master code 19 and figure out the secret clue to tomorrow’s adventure!”. There’s also contests in the “Secret Squadron Handbook” which involve mailing in an Ovaltine label
This is a fantastic example of an iconic adventure show where the kids can participate in the adventure using their souvenir premium from Ovaltine. Reminds me of the radio program “Ralphie” was listening to in “A Christmas Story”

Program was originally broadcast on The Mutual Don Lee System “Stay Tuned For Tom Mix”
The reverse side contains three songs by singer Bob Hughes with an unidentified orchestra. Songs include “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, “St. Louis Blues” & “Stormy Weather”. I’m unfamiliar with this singer, however it’s quite good, and the fidelity is excellent!
Disc is in Excellent- condition with Excellent- sound, a fine sounding specimen of this popular radio program
Due to their size, 16 inch discs may not play on standard turntables. For $10 I can make a professional CD dub of the disc for the buyer only
