Description
This is a rare original 1952 Columbia Records 10" 33rpm Self Titled album of Johnnie Ray (CL 6199). This is the first ever recorded self titled album and was one of the more successful pop albums of 1952. Johnny was one of the most sensational pop singers in the 1950s and considered by some to be the father of rock and roll. with his R&B style. One side (not numbered) features tracks with the Buddy Cole Quartet supporting Johnnie and such hits as "Walkin' My Baby Back Home" and "All of Me". The other side features 4 tracks with back-up from The Four Lads with orchestra accompaniment.
CONDTION:
JACKET: Way above average condition with very clean cover and without typical seam splits except for the lower front softened corner with a 1/3" split art the corner. The back cover has some minor soiling and two red Xs at upper right. The cover would be an amazing to frame for one so inclined. A new re-sealable clear vinyl outer sleeve is included to help protect this 65 year-old gem for generations to come. We rate the jacket's overall condition as VG+ using Goldmine standards.
VINYL: The very shiny vinyl with some spindle marks and a few light scratches mostly on the side with Buddy Cole Quartet. There is some surface noise and pops noted on this side. The side with The Four Lads has only very minimal surface noise and no noted pops. We rate this vinyl's overall condition as VG under Goldmine standards.
