PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! LORI BURTON
BREAKOUT
\ USA - (RED) MERCURY RECORDS - 61136
Rare, sought after Original 1967 first pressing of a cool chick groover = an explosive collision between Northern Soul and outrageously camp girl-group kitsch that just won't quit.

So you think the Shangri-Las were tough and streetwise girls? Well, you ain't heard nothing. Lori Burton's 'Nightmare' takes the 'Leader of the Pack' scenario to the next level: a girl has been showing off the singer's boyfriend's ring, leading to a vicious catfight in which one of the girls is killed!! Whoa! Lori Burton and Pam Sawyer formed one of the better New York (Brill Building) pop/rock songwriting teams of the '60s, although not too many of their songs were widely known hits. Their vicious garage punker 'I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore' gave the Rascals their first chart entry; 'Baby Let's Wait,' also done by the Rascals, gave the Royal Guardsmen a hit; Patti LaBelle & the Blue Bells did 'All or Nothing'; Lulu and Cindy Malone did 'Try to Understand' and Prince Harold did 'Forget About Me.' Burton and Sawyer were briefly signed to Motown as songwriters and were one of the few (if not the only) female production teams on the New York rock scene in the mid-'60s. But Lori Burton was also a very credible blue-eyed pop/soul singer, who had a very good earthy voice, delivering both cool sensual low growling and impassioned rasp at the most climactic points. She began recording as a solo act for Roulette in the mid-'60s and in 1967, issued this album, Breakout, on Mercury. This LP cover shows Lori as a biker chick in Cleopatra makeup breaking out of a barrier consisting of a huge Billboard chart. From the strains of 'Nightmare' to the thundering Northern Soul extravaganza of 'Gotta Make You Love Me' and 'There Is No Way (To Stop Lovin’ You)', what we have here is "Yeahhhhh, no boy’s worth the trouble that I’m in.” That’s the perfect first line of the classic death rock anthem, "Nightmare", a sexy, shocking, deliriously catchy girl-fight-gone-wrong raver that takes the Shangri-Las’ template, pushes every musical and emotional meter into the red, and leaves you feeling like you’re the one face down on the hall linoleum. Well, forget about the sexy gals in the song, because they were a fraud hired to play at being a girl group, and their oft-comped “Nightmare” just one of the fantastic tunes penned and sung by Miss Lori Burton and her British writing partner Pam Sawyer. Lori Burton had the vocal chops to sell songs that would have tried the best singers of the day. Raunchy, breathy, emotional-yet-controlled, eating stupid boyfriends like hors d'oeuvres, hers is one of the great forgotten voices, and the big Spectoresque production serves it beautifully. “Nightmare’s” isn’t even the best first line on the Lp. If you dig raunchy sixties poprock, you want to hear this Lp-----------------------------------------------------------“ GOTTA MAKE YOU LOVE ME SINCE I LOST YOUR LOVIN' THERE IS NO WAY (TO STOP LOVIN' YOU) THE HURT WON'T GO AWAY GOTTA GET OVER YOU BYE BYE CHARLIE LOVE WAS LET NO ONE COME BETWEEN US ONLY YOUR LOVE NIGHTMARE
