Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original 1968 first pressing on the highly collected steamboat Reprise label of the sixties...

In a way it is hard to imagine why this album exists. The Electric Prunes were a garage rock band adept at churning out quality singles with clever lyrics. They were young and vibrant and by no means heading in the direction of a concept album, especially one without any standout hits.

Conversely producer David Axelrod himself had been polishing his own unique arrangements sound and compositional style at Capitol Records, scoring production credits with pop artists. However there was no indication that he was about to score an entire acid rock interpretation of the Tridentine Latin Mass.

However exist it does, and is in all fairness a brilliant acid rock record, albeit a slightly strange concept album. Mass in F Minor shows the beginnings of the ideas that would shape Axelrod’s later solo projects, namely the three classic albums he cut for Capitol Records towards the end of the decade: Songs of Innocence (68), Songs of Experience (69) and Earth Rot (70).

Enter: Mass in F Minor

Mass in F Minor didn’t bring such good things for the Prunes themselves. Lumbered with an album they didn’t write and a producer who didn’t seem to appreciate their own artistic vision, Mass in F Minor proved to be a disaster for them. The record certainly propelled Axelrod’s career as a solo artist forward, but it also put the final nail in the coffin of The Electric Prunes. Filled with etheral atmospheric melody rich acidrock nuggets, the fuzz guitar alone will grab hold of most listeners...Evidently, the Prunes had agreed that this project would propel the Electric Prunes from garage/psych rockers into a finely tuned psychedelic ensemble to be taken seriously as musicians and artists. Unfortunately, the Prunes were not prepared to tackle Axelrod's complex and involved arrangements without a major struggle. Shortly after the album's release, the original lineup faded into obscurity, taking Mass in F Minor with them. However, the eerie version of "Kyrie Eleison" received fleeting attention when it was featured in the film Easy Rider.

The vinyl:  glossy on both sides, M- expect play grade to be very cleanly enjoyable start to finish ...and has CLEAN steamboat labels
