Very Rare 1969 original first pressing vinyl by hippie psych duo led by Glenn Frey who's creative force pulsated the EAGLES (yeah, those Eagles) into orbit...pre-Eagles J.D. Souther in this gig too...
Longbranch Pennywhistle is a pleasant album of modest harmonized early rural and head folkrock blends. The duo Longbranch Pennywistle, are remembered primarily for featuring a pre-Eagles Glenn Frey and J.D. Souther (who of course went on to write much material for the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt). Frey had moved to Los Angeles from Detroit, where he had played with Bob Seger & The System, and hooked up there with ex-Texan J.D. Souther. The two attracted attention in the burgeoning Southern California hipster-rock scene via gigs at the Troubadour club and were signed by Amos Records...the hideously rare and lone recording features pre-echoes of the sound of the Eagles(the good less commercial elements) ...easy/mellow West Coast groove can be heard, and Souther would re-record one of the better songs, "Kite Woman," for his early-'70s solo debut. The album, released on the obscure 'Amos' label sold little with no advertising backing or distribution and the duo broke up in mid-1970. However, since the material is strong, songs are memorable and the Eagles became what they were -- the album is highly sought after -- enjoyable moreso than any Eagles album you can think of...and that is how the ball bounces in the fate of such an album that ends up becoming the legend that is....
