MINTY CLEAN .... Original 1970 first pressing of a much sought after HARD PSYCHROCK collectible...
Like Bull Angus, so...what we have here is solid hard rock with layered, soulful vocals and lots of sixties style melodies and druggy aroma drenched in underground bluesy rock, heavy structures -- Highlighted by "Runnin Through My Mind" and the 9 min "Blues" (in three parts) both songs are bluesy pysch rock with Hammond organ. The song long track "Blues"(in three parts) is one of the best tracks on the album with smokin guitar and hammond organ mixes getting it on...decent vocals as well.
Rock Island formed in 1969 in Philadelphia and had a few different line-ups before the final members that recorded this album, which consisted of Cobb Bussinger (Hammond organ, vocals), Mike Kennedy (guitar, vocals), Frank Schallis (drums, vocals), B.J. Taylor (lead vocals), and Tony Curcio (bass). Three of the members-Cobb, Mike, and Frank -were previously in a band together named The Many Few.

Like or better than both of the Bull Angus albums. By 1970 hard (heavy) rock was the thing and hard rock was all over the place. The genuinely obscure ROCK ISLAND from Pennsylvania were no exception other than shrewdly stretching into the outer boundaries searching for the edge separating them from the hard rock masses. Because of the bands cunning ability to grasp elements from the "psychedelic sound" as it was known, Rock Island remain 49 years later as a relevant short lived group who made but this one (now) sought after album. In other words, what we have here is a solid hard rock effort enhanced by the skillful ability to formulate varied styles and good moves, highlighted by the soulful heartfelt vocalist. There are sixties styled melodies and in reaching for more, ROCK ISLAND found their groove when they added a genuine druggy ambience and competent bluesy rock sound - heavy on the edges. Highlights include "Runnin Through My Mind" and the 9 min "Blues" (in three parts) both tracks and others contain a psychedelic-washed blues rock direction led by gushing Hammond organ. The 8:14 "Blues" (in three parts) is one of the best tracks on the album streaked with smoking guitar and Hammond organ, both flat-out getting it on !
