PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. 1970 rare original pressing by this Dutch underground crew who issued two "lost" albums....
High-quality psychedelia with pronounced psych leanings, closer to the British and SF scenes of the 1960s than the "cosmic" Continental explorations of the 70s. Every track is memorable and its rather surprising this LP hasn't been reissued
MUSICIANS: Barrie Webb (vocals, guitar, psalter), Teun Van Der Slikke (vocals, harps, psalter, auto harp, guitar), Peter Van Der Sande (bass, piano), Onny Lopulalan (lead guitar on The Head), Mighty Max (drums), and Herman Erbe (guitar, psalter).
O.P.M.C. (OPIUM SEA, as they were living in the famous Amsterdam Red Light District) centered around Barrie Webb (from Scotland) and Dutchman Teun van der Slikke with different backing line ups during their existence. Other musicians in their recordings feature Frank van Tijn (drums), Peter van der Sande (bass, cello, elctric guitar, keyboards - plus he also did arrangements and production), and Onny Lopulalan (lead guitar), some of them having served in other interesting Dutch bands such as Apartment 1 and Serpentine. Even ex-Outsiders' legends Leendert Busch and Appie Rammers were at once among the O.P.M.C. line up! Amalgamation was their first album, released in 1970 and featuring a mix of psychedelic folk, drugged-out spacy guitar, and haunting melodies that some sources have considered to be vaguely reminiscent of Bryan MacLean in Love's 'Forever Changes'.
Amalgamation is a rather sparse record, thankfully without backing arrangements and orchestrations that would have been applied if a USA recording. The first track, "Ouverture", serves as a prelude to the beautiful "I'll Just Sit Here and Dream", which has only voice and guitar. Guitar-work, by the way, is practically omnipresent in the album. Highlighted by the second track is the delightful "Ballad Of The Sun," which sounds like a lost Moody Blues song from the golden age - which, let's face it, is a strong compliment. Closing side A, the exceptional "The Head", which features a beautiful guitar solo in the final minutes.
The B-side begins differently, with "Sick and Tired", sounding like a classic off of "Music From Big Pink" by The Band . After the quasi-vignette "Train Thing", we have "Easter Song", which takes the psychedelic path from the beginning of the album. Elsewhere, "Cambridge Impressions" bridges "Song For Mariolijn," which is an ode to marijuana, because "mariolijn" is Dutch for "marijuana."
Happily, the Dutch cats went out on a good note for the last track is decidedly the best of the album in "Fire Child". Seriously, if it had not been released on this obscure album from the Netherlands, "Fire Child" could now be one of the greatest classics of the psychedelic movement.
