HERE IT IS...the original 1970 first pressing (rare and sought after for good reason) very first album by the mighty DIONYSOS...a powerful full blown psyched-out affair that creams the lot of similar entities...
For fans of first two era Lp's by Black Sabbath, May Blitz and the like, were DIONYSOS
....Formed in 1967 in the Montreal suburb of Valleyfield (according to Greek mythology Dinoysis was the son of Zeus), the original line up consisted of organ player Philippe Bech, lead guitarist Eric Clement, bassist Jean Pierre Legault, drummer Robert Lepage, and lead singer Paul Andre Thilbert. The group apparently attracted considerable attention as one of the first rock bands to feature a powerful dark prog/psych sound. Playing on the Montreal club circuit with occasional gigs as far south as New York city, their mix of garage and progressive moves captured the attention of Jupiter Records which signed them to a contract in 1970. More than willing to capitalize on the band's unexpected success Jupiter rushed the group back into the studio to record this LP (by the time the LP was released keyboardist Bech was apparently gone, replaced by Andre Mathieu.)
1970's "DIONYSOS" was, and still very much is, an explosive thriller. Included on the album their first single, 'Suzie' is a layout of driving straight ahead blues/psych-jams made a little unsettling by Thilbert's wide range vocals lyrics that exemplify the dark heaviness perfectly. Elsewhere highlighted tracks like 'La Cloere' and 'Agneau de Dieu'(='Lamb Of God'), the majority of the set showcased a mixture of hard distortion guitar and gushing organ propelled psych/ blues/ prog moves and the performances are all quite professional and Thilbert has a nice raspy voice that is outstanding throughout, which addresses your usual index of early-1970s themes including drugs ('Narcotique'). Best track might be the closer is "Agneau de Dieu" ("Lamb OF God"), a 6 minute crusher, with it's menacing grinding guitar amid heavy rhythms that creep in and climax into frenzy, vocals in the frey are literally over the top...

CONDITION:
The cover: thick gatefold in collectible shape, 40 years old and solid, just light shelf wear starting -- even the dark back cover has some light wear (it is usually prone to much more wear.) altogether, no seam splits and no writing. VG++ keeper collectible
The Vinyl: clean labels. Both sides of the vinyl are all glossy. Only a few visible minor soft hairline scuffs, overall clean VG++ visible and plays enjoyable (play graded)
