A tough one to find as a white label promo...old vintage white label promotionals such as this have been sought after by collectors for years...they were the first to be pressed off the freshly cut masters and retain the best sound quality... limited editions that were sent out to select radio stations & news media for review...
Eric Burdon's 1970 second and final album with WAR, this two LP psychedelic-soul tour de force is perhaps the greatest testament to the band New Music Express would acclaim as the "best live band...ever seen." A sprawling work filled with free-form rockin' rhythym & blues, improvised psych vamps, and tight, funky rhythmic workouts, with the mega-force Eric Burdon vocalizations in top form...The Black Man's Burdon presents Eric Burdon and WAR at the height of their partnership, a spontaneous 'heady' musical force that could go anywhere at anytime. Highlights are all over the place and include the 13-minute-plus psychy Stones-influenced "Paint It Black Medley;" the soulful, jazzy "Pretty Colors;" “Bare Back Ride” is an infectious Boogie, somewhere between Santana and Canned Heat, brightened by Miller and Oskar inspired blowing, “Home Cookin’” a delicious, bouncing track with a fine sing-along chorus, driven by tasty baritone accents,and the most passionate cover of “Nights in White Satin” ever translated to tape (which makes the The Moody Blues original perfectly dispensable), book ending a Jazzy medley with flute protagonism, bass/percussion duels and an angry Eric Burdon recitation set against a swinging groove.
CONDITION: The gatefold cover is strong VG++ to "EX"(excellent), a very hard cover to find clean like this as it did not hold up well...This one is so good it can be considered an upper level keeper...Promo sticker on back cover -- the cover was quickly changed due to the expicit nudity inside the gatefold...no seam splits, no bends and no writing anywhere
