We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. About as good as it gets for this truly-rare 49 years go collectible ...
One of the most wear-prone covers in the world of vintage '60s/early 70's rock artifacts. Not unknown is a fact that nearly every original 'red-target' 1971 one-time-only pressing has some form of contact rub-wear, unless it is still in original shrink wrap... here is the very next-best copy with only a trace of contact shelf wear...as far as this particular copy goes, this listing item is quite highly desirable. In other words, good luck finding a better copy - ever!
Original 1971 first pressing of one of the two RAREST Bob Seger albums. In this highly collectible condition, it's about as good as it gets. Bob Seger, after fame, would never allow "Brand New Morning" in ANY format to be re-issued...
Bob Seger was pretty much disgusted with the rock industry after his bands' "Noah" was issued, dropped-out and grew his hair to the middle of his back with an unruly beard nearly same length, going up to the mountains to 'get away from it all.' Bob Seger achieving his desires, wrote this SOLO album in abject solitude and 'wilderness', total peace of mind.
Actually, it's been said, CAPITOL RECORDS initially rejected these recordings they claimed were no more than home studio recordings, ala 'demos.' Pressed for 'new' material from Bob Seger, Capitol Records finally released "Brand New Morning" it to satisfy Seger's contract with the label, having received nothing else by the legendary artist. Roll back 48 years ago with this copy finds the listener with a never again released album that utimately sold poorly, hence the "scarcity" some 50 years onward, long before Seger became a major *star.* Afterwards, despite heavy demand for this album, Bob Seger had NO desire to ever see this album reissued. 'I've got that one buried in my backyard,' he once quipped.
Seger may not be fond of the material now, but at the time of its release, he played it with spirit, energy and affection...clearly, these Brand New Morning songs were far-more than cast-off demos ultimately released in '71 by Capitol Records.
The title cut is a clear standout: over 48 years later, it's energy and optimism are still strong.
All of Side Two, is standout material; had some of this been recorded with a band, it could have had even contained a certain commercial appeal -- potentially.
And without a doubt, Brand New Morning contains one of Seger's best songs ever: "Railroad Days." In subject matter and form, it is a near-perfect precursor to his mega-hit "Night Moves." Both are a look back at a younger, more innocent time of life. (One looks back on "Days" the other on "Nights.")
"Railroad Days" goes back further into childhood, however. The lyrics touch on playing baseball and "singing songs to the darkness of the night. Bob Seger recounts: "We even sang the parts the instruments were playing / We were young, and dreams were really quite all right." ...Near the end of the song, we shift to present time. The music stops except for a few slow guitar chords. Seger sings: "Yesterday, I heard they shut the trains down." Slowly the song builds back up into its previous rhythm. The format is quite like "Night Moves" but "Railroad Days" is very much its own song. The vocals are chilling, superb and pure Seger.
Other standout cuts are "Louise" (" she was an outlaw in the year of '71") and "Something Like" ("...something like loving / everything about a woman / all the bad things too that she can't change for you..."). Hopefully these tracks will turn up on a box set complication, for otherwise will be lost forever should a collector not locate this album. Someday, amyway...probably the same day the sea turns to lemonade and world hunger ends.
"Song for Him" is one of the only Seger song with a prominent religious theme. Seger, the self-described "lonely one" sings:
"I've been lonely
But not lonelier than him
When I'm lonely, still I know
He'll forgive me, yes it's so."
What's most beautiful about this song is the way Seger absolutely yet sincerely wails these lyrics -- it's head-back, heartfelt, full-on emotion. The vocals tap straight and true into Seger's genius.

CONDITION: The cover: Rated: strong, near "EX" (excellent), far better than the *lucky* "VG" copy that, most likely, might turn up. One of the most wear prone covers - almost all surviving copies have A LOT of wear...here a very desirable/decent cover with fresh original colors, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ... there is a real tiny delete drill at bottom left, so small and buried, only caught it after the listing was posted. Very rare finding an original 1971 copy without a delete mark -- if not way worse.
