Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. Rare original 1971 UK first pressing with laminated cover...Black Widows third album changed direction from the satanic themes into a more melodic layered progressive unit with still plenty to offer...
With the band's leadier Jim Gannon leaving the line up after their second album, Black Widow re-grouped quickly. This they did by bringing in replacement John Culley and calling upon the talented Francis Monkman (Curved Air) to help out on keyboards unaccredited. Deciding to simply call the album "Black Widow III", they set about putting together some new songs without their former principal writer.
The album kicks off promisingly with an 11 minute three part piece called "The Battle", a suite portraying the folly of war (a popular theme at the time and of course today). There is an early Uriah Heep feel to the first section "The Onslaught", mainly through the high harmonies and guitar/organ driven heavy rock. Lyrically, the song is rather rudimentary with lyrics such as "And now the battle's over, time to count the dead" hardly being the work of the bard. It is also noticeable how far removed such thoughts are from the devil worshipping antics of the debut. The track develops nicely through some building guitar work backed by harmonies. A fine epic that starts a large portion of side one off with.
After that, it is back to business with lighter rock focused numbers. That said, tracks such as "King of Hearts" do have a good progressive structure, with altering themes and tempos flowing nicely. The song may have a lightweight feel, but it is well put together. The album closes with a further long epic "Old Man" which doesn't have the same type of structure of "The Battle", but will nevertheless be of interest to progressive fans.
In all, a much better album than its immediate predecessor. The lack of commercial success of this album and its predecessor led to the band's label CBS losing faith in them and terminating their contract.

CONDITION: The Cover: laminated and slightly used visibly with some minor handling creases to the lamination which is common with 40 year old UK albums, VG+ having no split seams and no writing and still colorful
The Vinyl: both sides are well played and have light minor hairline marks, nothing too deep, while visible VG(+), still a lot of life left and plays VG++ with only a little random, passive surface noticable which makes it a collection item until an upgrade one day might appear... the album is harder to find by the day...
