RARE... and in demand progressive psych gem with whirling heady passages; greatly adventurous self compositions filled and led by gushing Hammond organ/Mellotron accompanied by biting guitar accents & tight playing within memorable tunes...The legendary <<ATOMIC SYSTEM>> by The NEW TROLLS

Original 1973 first pressing in creative triple fold cover...

After the breakup of NEW TROLLS in 1972 the members split into two bands, the hard-rocking "IBIS" and the symphonic-oriented NEW TROLLS ATOMIC SYSTEM.

New Trolls keyboardist Vittorio De Scalzi formed "N.T. ATOMIC SYSTEM" ...This record is in the same the best VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR or KING CRIMSON, with sharp winds mixed with free Hammond organ parts. Many collectors regard N.T. ATOMIC SYSTYEM as one of the greatest Italian prog rock albums...

Collectors and fans of Italian Progressive Rock will immediately feel at home when they hear the intro to the 6:43 "New Sermon Of Father O'Brien" with glorious keyboards reminiscent of early BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO; great spinet, Hammond and Mellotron, whirling breathy flute plus a dash of female backing vocals interspaced with De Scalzi's singing make for a outstanding track and is the album's "manifesto".

The 7:30 "Then I Saw" starts with Mellotron and Hammond before bringing in synthesizer, switching back and forth between the heavy and the mellow, with the mellow reminiscent of CELESTE. The overall effect is quite psychedelic.

The first half and the end of "Return To Believe" sound like a sort of melodic mainstream Italian rock combining very pleasant music. From about the halfway point the track turns into pure progressive movements with complex rhythms, again with some excellent piano and keyboards (reminiscent of EGG).

''Hibernation" in 5:43 minutes, again has prominent spinet, keys and synthesizer and will be of interest to fans of keyboard led progressive rock. The song has a very jazzy feel. Halfway through the track there's some good fluttering flute and the music takes on a very medieval feel. Then there is some nice running bass lines. Great track.

When The Herbs Dressed The Earth starts off with an ecclesiastical-sounding Hammond organ  but turns into a song that takes on an atmospheric grand style that halfway through takes on a a complex progressive format complete with Crimson/VdGG reeds. Nice.

'Butterfly' is a sixties styled track with good breathy flute and good keyboard improve ala the track a little though not in the same league.

The overriding impression when listening to this album is of the consummate musicianship. The Hammond organ and other keyboard work is superb, but then the other band members all contribute evenly. Even the drums are noticeably strong. We like the mix of the rough with the smooth with strong complex progressive movements in all tracks including a nice early 1970's feel to the music

  • The New Sermon Of Father O'Brien (6:43)
    Then I Saw (7:31)
    Return To Believe (8:35)
    Hibernation (5:48)
When The Herbs Dressed The Earth (7:16)
  • Butterfly (8:05)
