IMPORTANT: I am helping my friend, Phil Ranelin – the great trombonist/composer and co-founder of the legendary Tribe record label, sell a number of extremely rare LP’s from his personal collection. Mr. Ranelin would not be parting with these if he didn’t need the money. Although he has thankfully recovered in body and spirit from a very serious car accident (late 2005) and is playing as well as ever - which is a very high level, indeed, amazingly gigs have been few and far between. As rough as the last few years have been for so many, you can only imagine what it’s like for a jazz musician (let alone one who is black, plays the trombone and puts forth exquisite music of substance in the jazz hinterland that is Los Angeles). Most of these recordings will be of particular interest to those who are into the spiritual jazz sounds that are often heard on the Black Jazz, ESP-Disk, Strata, Strata-East, Tribe, and similar independent labels and private pressings.
Anyway . . .
This is the very first recorded offering by the legendary Tribe collective/record label out of Detroit. It’s from 1972 and extremely rare. It compiles the first sides of two LP’s that were released later as Wendell Harrison’s Evening With The Devil and Phil Ranelin & Wendell Harrison’s Message From The Tribe, respectively.

The vinyl is in decent condition. It still retains some of its sheen, but has some light marks that do contribute some surface noise (mostly noticeable during the soft passages). The surface noise is never overwhelming, but it is, more or less, ever present.
The cover has a few minor flaws, but none that significantly mar its beauty or obscure the liner notes and pictures on either side. There are no seam or spine splits. There is some modest rubwear wear and a smudge or two on the front cover. The back cover has been lightly splattered (mostly in the upper right hand corner) with some liquid (see pictures).
