 GINO PARKS (& The Love-Tones) TAMLA T-54066
"For This I Thank You  b/w  Fire"
Originally a Gospel singer from Alabama before moving to Detroit in the 50's,
 Gino Parks (who real name was Gene Purifoy) caught the attention of the semi-notorious
 Andre Williams, who already had a history with The Diablos, The Don Juans, and the Five Dollars
 on Fortune, and Gino subsequently sang on a handful of Fortune releases in the late 50's.
In 1960, Gino found his way into the legendary Berry Gordy stable of early Motown greats,
 and by 1961 released "Same Thing" on Tamla, followed by his only other 45 on the label in '62,
 this incredible 2-sider gem.
Featuring backing vocals by The Love-Tones (aka The Mello-Dees) who were already backing
 Marvin Gaye & Mary Wells - this record was released along with another Wm. (Mickey) Stevenson penned tune by The Marvelettes - "Beechwood 4-5789" early that summer.  Whilst the A-side "Fire"
 is an intense R&B stomper with an excellent saxophone break - it's the B-side "For This I Thank You"
 that really deserved more promotion, an infectious melodious number truly reminiscent of that
 early Motown Sound.
Both sides play much better than it looks - despite having been stored with other 45's over the years. Even with the label writing - it's still a rare original Northern Soul - Motown Era 45 that continues to be hard to find.
