PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +22,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original 1971 first press on the tiny local MARK Records labels, this is the first of TWO highly collected albums by the hard guitar Psych band Agape ... their "Victims Of Tradition" LP issued a year later received high praise by collectors around the globe - as well.
Agape's "Hard Rock" album was a well-known (expensive - three $ figures) collector item well over 54 years past, having an accessible formidable X-ian psych/hard-rock sound with a Hendrix/Cream vibe. Mike Jungman - Drums, Organ Agape was from California and creating original jamming tunes in a psych rock format being pretty solid. Agape leader Fred Caban wrote the lyrics, music and supplies the powerful voice on all the tracks.
Fred was a young guitarist from Azusa, California, a half hour East from Los Angeles and formed the AGAPE soon after he graduated from high school in 1968. Agape were one of the earliest X-ian rock bands, established in a time when the music they played was still being shunned by established centers for being too loud (the few they approached for concerts rejected the loud music played.)
Agape performed wherever they could, on beaches, in schools, and in parks, and and released their first album "Agape (Gospel Hard Rock)" in 1971 on the private Los Angeles Mark Records label.
AGAPE centered around the talents of Fred Caban during the early stages of counterculture’s music scene, offering intimate glimpse into rock 'n 'roll life-styles of such guitar phenoms as Jimi Hendrix, after whom the Fred Caban patterned his style.
Upon graduating from an Azusa high school in the spring of 1968, he and his band-mates squeezed into a small Volkswagen van in search of venues to perform. Having previously established himself as a mighty guitar player, Caban of impressive merit in the southern California area, recruited Mike Jungkman on drums and Lonnie Campbell on bass. Fred Caban capitalized on his dynamic guitar work to gather initial crowds. Caban stated, "We'd play one or two songs - we'd jam furiously and then blow them away - and then boom, we'd start educating them as to what we were all about.....and people would stick around and listen." Agape played a number or venues throughout the California area including a number of performances at Hollywood Salt Company Coffeehouse. As a musical entity, the Agape hard rock trio gained a large following throughout the west coast, sharing stages with other obscure rock bands like "Love Song" and "JC Power Outlet" while playing the popular "Gazzari's Hollywood-A-Go-Go", and invited to share the bill at the first California x-ian rock Festival held at the Hollywood Palladium in 1971. Though some believed their music was a compromise in it's close imitation of other worldly bands like Cream meets Jimi Hendrix Experience" none of the members backed down from their vision in what they felt their music should project. Caban states, "We were basically playing as a muscular styled rock band. When we got on stage we played it as hard as we ever did before. But where we had previously been selfish and desiring fortune and fame, we sang about a direction in life. Music historian Paul Baker wrote of Agape, "they played hard rock at it's crustiest - a louder than loud and cutting through the thickest defenses of non-rock fans. For those enjoyng their energy, Agape spoke-clearly to whomever joined their hard rock approach as their own language."
