RARE 78 rpm Calypso JAMAICA Mento Record LORD LEBBY & HUBERT PORTER
This is a rare 78 rpm record released on the “Kalypso” label, made in Jamaica. The Kalypso label was started by Ken Khouri, who originally had pressings produced by Decca in England for distribution by the Times department store in Kingston, but then established his own pressing facility in Jamaica in 1954. The recordings are Kalypso catalog numbers JAM 118 and RL102 and the record features Lord Lebby with the Jamaican Calypsonians performing “Bargie” on one side and Hubert Porter with the Jamaican Calypsonians performing “Mass Charley Bell” on the other. Lord Lebby is considered an important Golden Age mento singer as is Hubert Porter, who is considered more of an urban mento singer. This record is about as clean a copy as anyone is ever going to find - there is one tiny scratch and a series of what look what needle drops on the Hubert Porter side only; I’m not sure if these will affect play, but they are really quite small. The record has very good gloss and the Lord Lebby side is really mint, and looks unplayed. I’ve cleaned the record with the Disc Doctor’s Miracle Record Cleaner. Our auctions end on Sunday evening, so I will be in touch with the correct invoice by Monday afternoon at the latest, after we have had the chance to carefully package your item.

I am now shipping to my US clients through USPS services. I am located in Canada but I now have a carrier service to bring my parcels directly across the border on Thursdays to be shipped out of the USPS postal outlet in Champlain, N.Y. In addition to the actual shipping cost, I do charge a $3.00 handling fee to cover the cost of this special US service. Please note that even with the handling fee that it is less expensive and is a quicker service than using Canada Post. If you wish your item to be shipped by USPS in the same week, I would require your paypal payment by Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

PLEASE NOTE: For items which sell over $200.00, I must ship to my U.S. clients using Canada Post, this is due to customs regulations.

To my Canadian clients, I use Canada Post for shipping, as I am based in Canada - legally, I am not permitted to ship to you through the US, so do not rely on the US shipping calculator for costs.

To my International clients I can ship by either Canada Post or by USPS (in order to use USPS for intl. clients - the items must sell for under $200.00).

I would request any client to get in touch with me upon winning an item, who is NOT able to pay by Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, so I can get an idea of when to expect your payment.
