Here we have a VERY EARLY (MAYBE THE FIRST?) 10” single-sided G&T Red Label 78 rpm disc.
It’s by Russian lyrical-dramatic tenor Nikolay Nikolayevich Figner who was born in 1857 and was a personal friend of Tchaikovsky.
He is performing "You Are My Morning" and “The Lovers” by Wrangel, (wonder if Wrangel had a side-line in manufacturing jeans?).
The Mx number is 293x and the catalogue number is 22547.
Mr Google tells us (so it MUST be true) that it was recorded in St Petersburg in 1901.

This 10" single-sided Red Label G&T, made within weeks of the end of the Victorian era, is in remarkably good playing condition, even though the label (like many of these very early red labels), has lost much of its gold print.
The main fly in the ointment (possibly caused by a fly in the ointment) is a lumpy bit next to the label, well clear of the music. This might be a bit of the pressing engineer’s beard/lunch/fag-end that fell into the mix at the Riga pressing plant 123 years ago.
There is a similar wobbly bit right at the outer edge (see pic) which again looks like a pressing fault.
There is a tiny pimple in the shellac (see picture) which gives an audible clonk for a few seconds, but otherwise.. well, have a listen to the sample on the video.
It's one of the rarest items that bargainsforbadgers has ever sold. Amazingly, for such a very, very old disc, it is in exemplary condition. The video presents the unfiltered sound, with no noise reduction, and it's pretty darn good, we think.
If pushed, we'd probably rate it as a strong V+ or better, using the VJM grading system (VJM standing for Vague Judgements, Mainly).
However, bear in mind the two lumpy bits and the pimple.
