Description

Rare Amber

'S/T'

Polydor, UK, 1969

583 046

THE LATE sixties gave rise to a number of fantastic bands that fitted right into the British blues boom spearheaded by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack, Climax Blues Band and the Groundhogs. Of course, there were a second layer of B-level acts including a whole list of obscure acts like Ashkan, Sam Apple Pie, Bakerloo and, natch, Rare Amber.

Raw hard blues rock is the name of the game. Sure, there's a garagy feel going on here but don't forget its 1969 and the era of hippy trippy nonsense was truly on the wane being rapidly replaced by raw, undiluted hard rock and heavy blues - think a teenage Led Zeppelin. As well as writing a number of hooky originals the band have covered a few choice blues chestnuts including material from Otis Spann, BB King and Muddy Waters - the only difference between these guys and Zeppelin where that Rare Amber listed the correct writing credits!

This one will win no prizes for finesse - just take a look at that cover. Four long haired degenerates attending a sacrifice. That's all you need to know.

Pressing: Polydor, UK, 1969

Vinyl: Clean condition but displays some signs of use - a few surface scuffs under a bright light. Playback is solid but displays the occasional bit of snap, crackle and pop during some quieter moments. Grades as Ex

Cover: Some signs of use and handling. Issued in a fully laminated cover which has seen better days. The gloss finish has been dulled with age and storage wear. Although the corners are square and fairly sharp the cover has seen used record stores during the seventies. There are however no real major flaws except for a few light creases, a bit of edge wear, a touch of lamaination lift and a some wear on the spine including a one inch strip of lamination that has been dislodged due to a small seam split. Despite the full disclosure of condition I would say that this is still a presentable sleeve and would grade it as Vg+

Inserts: None
