Up for auction is a magnificent cornerstone of orchestral audio engineering: an authentic **German Test Pressing / White Label Promo** ("Unverkäufliche Musterplatte") of the May 1997 audiophile reissue of Zoltán Kodály's brilliant *Háry János Suite* and *Dances of Galánta* (originally recorded in February 1964 at Kingsway Hall, London).
Kertész’s legendary interpretations of his compatriot Kodály’s scores are absolute reference recordings, widely celebrated for capturing the whimsical, theatrical spirit and complex orchestral colors of Hungarian folklore. Captured by master engineer Kenneth Wilkinson at Kingsway Hall, this performance is a perennial choice for audiophiles due to its deep soundstage, legendary instrument separation, and the tremendous dynamic impact of the percussion and cimbalom.
Remastered directly from the original analogue session tapes, the lacquers were cut in London by top mastering engineer Tony Hawkins at DECCA using a Neumann VMS 80 lathe with a Studer A 80 tape machine. Pressed onto premium **180g Virgin Vinyl** in Germany, the commercial release was strictly limited to 1,000 copies per stamper. An advance *Musterplatte* test pressing like this is exceptionally rare and represents the ultimate, definitive copy for serious classical vinyl collectors.
