Description
Telefunken LT – 6598 – 6601. Bach Matthäus Passion / st. Mathew Passion. Soloists, Chorus of the Nederlandse Bach-Vereniging, Het Residentie-Orkest (residency-orchestra the Hague), Boys' Choir of the Amsterdam Vredesscholen conducted by Anthon van der Horst. Telefunken LT 6598/6601 [4 LPs]
Rare and luxury first edition set. Linnen box. Extensive Booklet and original libretto from a performance in Naarden. Naarden is the hometown of the tradition of Passion-performances on good Friday in the Netherlands. The Dutch Bachvereniging still performs there every year. This recording was made on good Friday in 1957. It is conducted by Anthon van der Horst. Soloists are Tom Brand (tenor), Laurens Bogtman (bass), Guus Hoekman (bass), Erna Spoorenberg (soprano), Annie Hermes (alto), Arjan Blanken (tenor) - and many well known instrumentalists: solo violin: Herman Krebbers and Theo Olof, viola da gamba: Carel van Leeuwen Boomkamp, oboe: Constant Stotijn, organ: Albert de Klerk, and cello: Martin Zagwijn.
The Dutch Bach Society under Dr. Anton van der Horst rendered a more authentic performance of Bach's masterpiece than for example Mengelberg. This recording is a milestone in the recording of the Passion.
The box is ex+, superb condition for a delicate linen box. Records, booklet and inner sleeves are Ex+, few non sounding marks only. Shiny records.

M: never used. I don’t use this grade unless the record is sealed
NM: No visible or audible faults
EX: Record has clearly been used, but has no major audible faults, some non sounding marks possible, maybe some dirt or light surface noise (especially on older mono record, surface noise is quite normal).
VG: Light audible faults, ticks or surface noise
G: scratches, etc. I don’t sell record in this condition, unless they are very special and collectible.
Records are first graded visually. If I have doubts, I grade them on my linn lp12 / clearaudio sigma.
