Description
An extraordinary set of BBC Transcription discs, which comprise nine editions of a series of thirteen shows by the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra. It's a unique series, being recorded specially for Transcription services. The shows are studio recordings, with no audience, and linked by a BBC announcer. The recordings are very good, as was the case with all BBC recordings of this era, and the discs are in good condition. They are a bit crackly, which isn't surprising, considering their age, but they play very well. They clean up to perfection with good de-clicking software. The basic recordings are still excellent. There are two faults, both noted by a disc librarian on the labels, but they only affect two tracks on the whole set, so not bad. They can be overcome with some patience and a steady hand. The music is classic Dankworth, and classic 1950s British Big Band Jazz. There's a couple of tracks from a BBC Documentary 'We Are The Lambeth Boys' which dates this set to late 1958.
