This auction is for an original pressing of the Beatles LP 'With the Beatles' on the UK Parlophone number.
When 'With the Beatles' was released at the end of 1963 the album it knocked from the number 1 spot was Please Please Me. So EMI had this overwhelming demand not only for the huge sales of the Beatles' debut album, but also their follow-up album. It's my opinion that this demand got so great at the end of 1963 that EMI contracted Decca to press a number of copies to keep on top of this demand. I believe that Decca were contracted to run off a quantity of both Please Please Me and With The Beatles album at this time.
It's very easy to spot a Decca contract pressing of With the Beatles as it features the very prominent Decca 'ring' and also the smaller 'polo' sized inner indentation.
The number of copies pressed by Decca only amounted to a very small percentage of overall copies produced and are very hard to find! Would make a perfect collection filler!
...
The cover is holding up okay but is showing its age (bearing in mind that this LP is 52 years old now!). The front cov er has creamed a little and has some creases running around the edges. There's some light damage in the corners and down the mouthedge with a small tear down the bottom right corner. Top and bottom seams are holding fine with just a few little creases running through them. The spine has worn through in places to the card underneath but hasn't completely worn through. The mouth edge is pretty rough and worn. The back has browned a little but doesn't have any stains. The name 'June Nicholson' has been written and underlined in red pen at the top left. There's some light creases on the overflaps which are all holding tight. There's a tiny bit of damage bottom left and noticeable wear at the mouth edge. Overall, not too bad - you usually find these sleeves pretty trashed. This one is showing its age but, overall, isn't looking too bad. Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : G+
Please note that the disc has a a light warp in it! The playing surface has a nice, clean shine to it and has a lot of light, faint scuffs along with some slightly heavier looking scuffs and marks - nothing serious or deep, though. I can just about feel two small scratches with my fingernail - one running from the middle of track 1 to the middle of track 2 at 10 o'clock on side 2 and one that run through track 7 on side 1 at 8 o'clock. I can't playtest these so I don't know if these would make the needle skip, but would make a click at the least.
.
The labels are clean with bright, sharp silver text. There's some light spindlewear and some light rubbing and whitening around the centrehole but nothing serious. Labels are looking pretty good!
