THE BEATLES UK VINYL ALBUM FROM 1963
'PLEASE PLEASE ME'
TRUE 3rd Pressing
Background information: There has always been some confusion over the various pressings of this album. Some call this pressing the 2nd pressing. Some call it the third pressing. That is what I have called it. The album was originally released in 1963 on the Gold & Black Parlophone label (Gold print). It was released in Mono and Stereo. There were 2 pressings both on the Gold & Black Label. This therefore, is the 3rd pressing (or 1st pressing on the Yellow & Black Parlophone label). It, (incorrectly), retained a small 331/3 on the label, which was a 'leftover' from the Gold label. Parlophone realised their mistake (that they now had two 331/3 on both sides) and therefore produced another label without the small 331/3, making this version of the album very rare. Some say only 900 or so of this pressing exists!
GOOGLE AI SAYS: The "extra 33 1/3" refers to a specific, rare variant of Please Please Me (1963) where the small "33 1/3" RPM text was incorrectly left on the label during the transition from the black/gold to the black/yellow label style, creating an unnecessary duplication of the speed. Based on collector guides and discography data:
Mono Version (PMC 1202): The 3rd mono pressing (spring 1963) features this "extra small 33 1/3" on the label, often in combination with "Northern Songs" publishing credits.
Stereo Version (PCS 3042): The 3rd stereo pressing (Type A) also features this, often described as a "small 33 1/3" at 9 o'clock.
While the "extra 33 1/3" is generally associated with a specific 3rd press label variant, the error may appear on slightly different label variations within that transitional period. Some sources indicate there were very few of these pressed, with one report of a specific "Northern Songs" variation having only 900 copies, though others simply classify them as early 1963 pressings.
(Discogs says). 3rd Pressing (Type A), Summer 1963
This version is the rare third Mono pressing with the small 33⅓ at 9 o'clock on the labels.
Label perimeter text begins with 'THE PARLOPHONE CO LTD'
No 'SOLD IN UK' statement on labels.
Northern Songs credit on A1, A2,B4 & B6. Dick James credit on A6 & A7.
'Photo: Angus McBean' credit front bottom right hand corner.

THE VINYL: EXCELLENT
HAS HAIRLINES AND SOME MINOR SCUFFS AND SCRATCHES (NOTHING SERIOUS), AND IT IS A GREAT COPY AND IT PLAYS VERY WELL WITH NO STICKS OR JUMPS. IT HAS OCCASIONAL CLICKS AND CRACKLES, MAINLY PROMINENT IN QUIETER SECTIONS AND IN BETWEEN TRACKS. HAS VERY CLEAN LABELS. HAS SOME SPINDLE MARKS AND A LITTLE SPINDLE WEAR. ALSO HAS A LABEL REMOVAL MARK ON SIDE 2. (I've tried to photgraph everything)
THE SLEEVE: VERY GOOD
HAS NO REALLY SERIOUS DAMAGE BUT HAS SOME LAMINATE CREASES ON EDGES AND A THUMB CREASE ON THE FRONT. FLIP-BACKS ARE FAIRLY GOOD BUT NO MEANS PERFECT (see photos). NO SELLOTAPE, NO WRITING. HAS EDGE WEAR AND SOME 'DINKS'. NO REAL LAMINATE LIFT. SOME AGEING ON REAR OF SLEEVE MAINLY THE FLIP BACK EDGES BUT OTHERWISE IT IS VERY CLEAN. SOME CORNER WEAR, NO MAJOR SPLITS OR TEARS, MINIMAL SPINE WEAR AND IT IS COMPLETELY READABLE. THE OPENING EDGE IS FAIRLY TIDY AND HAS VERY LITTLE WEAR.
THE INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
Plastic lined EMITEX inner sleeve has a minimal creasing, slight discolouration through ageing, no stains or marks. No edge splits, no tears at the die-cut centre. No writing or sellotape.

Strictly Graded Using RECORD COLLECTOR Grading System
Grading System: I have used Record Collector magazine set of standards for the condition of second-hand records. I have added a (+) or (-) to my gradings where applicable.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as sealed or unplayed should be Mint. (NOTE: As far as I am concerned MINT will never apply to second hand vinyl records).
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
I grade all records in accordance with the Rare Record Price Guide (see above). However, if you feel I have graded your record incorrectly please email me ASAP so we can resolve the problem amicably.
Post & Packaging - I recycle all packaging so you will get your goods in recycled packaging. All items over £20 are sent ‘Tracked' and I always obtain 'Proof of Posting' for cheaper items. All items are securely and properly packaged and vinyl is sent using double corrugated cardboard stiffeners or similar.
