THE BEATLES: SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (Capitol MAS-2653 MONO, 1967): The cover is a clean VG with a 3" seam split at the top opening; otherwise it presents beautifully and looks M-. The record's a clean VG with only superficial marks; it plays VG+. Original "psychedelic" inner sleeve and Sgt. Pepper cutout sheet, too! No writing on cover, record, sleeve, or cutouts!
Enough praise has been written about this game-changing LP to fill a library, so we won't wax rhapsodic, as is our habit. Suffice it to say that this album was so influential that The Kinks' brilliant lead vocalist and songwriter Ray Davies (pronounced "Davis", Yanks) avoided listening to it so he wouldn't be affected by The Beatles' masterpiece. And after hearing it, The Beach Boys' genius Brian Wilson was so profoundly depressed at how "far ahead" The Beatles were that he vowed to stop songwriting and producing altogether!
This clean example of SGT. PEPPER'S is original mono; all the Fabs' records until '68 were mixed to mono, so this is the desired format for discriminating collectors. The stereo records were hastily mixed later and don't have the crisp sound, the impact that the mono recordings have. The mono mix of this LP is particularly different than the stereo, and is also much scarcer. SGT. PEPPER'S was considered an album that you "had to" hear in stereo in 1967, and very few mono copies were sold.
