Description
RARE “RUBBER SOUL” UK 4th PRESSING with 1 EMI BOX on Labels You’re looking at a really nice Stereo copy of this historic album in FULL SHRINK. Here’s what makes this version of the album so rare…
1) This particular Parlophone label with only 1 EMI Box at the bottom was only produced from November 1969 through early 1971. So not many were produced.
2) The British did not shrink wrap their albums in the Sixties and Seventies. So the shrink wrap on this particular album leads me to believe that this was originally exported from Britain to the US, or a PX at a US or UK Military Base in the early Seventies. The Record Shops and PX’s would take these BRAND NEW British albums and shrink wrap them themselves before putting them out on the shelves.
3) This cover was manufactured and printed by the Earnest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London. This is listed on the back bottom right. During this period, approximately 90% of EMI’s covers were manufactured and printed by Garrod & Lofthouse, Ltd. Only the remaining 10% of these covers were produced by the Earnest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London, so they’re quite a bit harder to find.
*** Good luck finding another copy of this particular album with ALL THREE OF THESE RARE FEATURES! ***
Here are the particulars on this album…
TITLE: “RUBBER SOUL” (Parlophone PCS 3075 – Stereo) 4th PRESSING – 1969 – 1971
COVER: Front is laminated and has NO “Stereo” designation. Earnest J. Day & Co. Ltd., London on back.
RECORD: Matrix Numbers – Side 1 YEX 178-3 Side 2 YEX 179-3
LABELS: Silver Parlophone with 1 EMI BOX.
INNER SLEEVE: Sepia color EMI “LP Advertsing” Inner Sleeve 1970 – 1971.
ALBUM CONDITIONS
ALBUM COVER: (NEAR MINT) A beautiful example of this groundbreaking cover in FULL SHRINK. (SEE IMAGES.)
Shrink Wrap: The shrink is full and tight. There is a 1 inch split at the bottom right seam and a small 1/4 inch tear at the top left of the back cover. (This isn’t your regular stretchy shrink wrap with “breath holes” that was used on regular US albums. This is more like the cellophane wrap used in gift baskets. That’s all American Record Shops and U.S. and U.K. Military Px’s could afford.) There is a Red “LP 2” sticker at the top right that is most probably a Pricing Code. (SEE IMAGES.)
Front: The laminated front cover slick looks great under the shrink with no sign of ring wear. (That’s the great thing about these laminated covers. They are almost immune to ring wear.) (SEE IMAGES.)
Back: The non-laminated back cover also looks great with no sign of ring wear. There are a few very minor creases on the back cover spine flap which is very common on these kind of UK covers even in the best of shape. (SEE IMAGES.)
Seams: The top and bottom seams are like new under the shrink.
Open Edge: The two corners have small dings.
Spine: A great looking spine with sharp, clear text beneath the shrink. Only flaws being barely visible dings at the top and bottom corners. (SEE IMAGES)
VINYL RECORD: (VG+)
Record: Play tested. No skips. Has some surface scuffs and light scratches which do not affect its play. Both sides still retain a good amount of their original luster. Looks VG+ but Sounds NM. (SEE IMAGES.)
Labels: Both labels look great. (SEE IMAGES.)
Sleeve: Comes with original Sepia color EMI “LP Advertsing” Inner Sleeve in fantastic condition with NO splits or tears. The only thing keeping it from being perfect is some light creasing. (The record will be shipped inside a generic sleeve in order to protect the original sleeve.)
