RARE BIRD - AS YOUR MIND FLIES BY

A solid excellent (at least) condition and beautifully presentable copy, with gleaming vinyl and superb audio reproduction, of this increasingly rare & sought after 1970 UK 1st press prog rock gem with earliest A2/B2 vinyl matrix numbers on the highly collectable "red scroll" CHARISMA record label, STEREO, 2383-211

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  CAS 10111 A - 2 U  with stampers "2" and "H" at 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock respectively

Side 2   CAS 10111 B - 2 U  with stampers "2" and "H" at 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively

A truly excellent condition original copy of this 1970 "under the radar" and utterly underrated prog rock gem with glossy jet black sheen & earliest A2/B2 matrix vinyl with just a few extremely light paper scuff marks on each side and a single very, very light 2cm line scuff on side 1 - all non-feelable, purely superficial and only visible with close inspection under a bright light;     pristine labels - if you look very, very closely you may just be able to spot x2 small and extremely faint spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole - otherwise perfect, with the black text upon the  beautiful red/magenta slightly textured background, along with the white text of the iconic Charisma logo, all in perfect condition;     lovely condition 1st press E.J. Day non-laminated textured gatefold outer sleeve with firm edges (just a  few intermittent light scuff marks on the top edges and bottom back edge and a little more pronounced towards the bottom right corner), no creasing apart from a single 1cm light surface crease perpendicular and adjacent to the middle of the spine on the front side, the odd very light abrasion (negligible), lovely firm spine, near perfectly defined right angled corners with minimal rubbing, no fraying on the top opening edges which remain nicely firm, and all colours/art work/text remain beautifully intact with rich colour vibrancy and perfect definition...the inside of the gatefold is hard to fault with the only blemish being a very light 10cm crease mark (purely superficial) running parallel to the inside spine; original plain white inner sleeve with correct "PATENT NO..." and "MADE IN ENGLAND" horizontal text and no splits, tears, edge fraying or age discolouration - just some mild creasing at the corners - and remaining fully functional (note that I always house the vinyl inside a brand new poly-lined inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original);     brilliant audio quality with no sticks, jumps, repeats, skips, clicks, interference or background crackle...simply great tone throughout. Such an underrated LP - super prog, with lots of organ, elements of which are reminiscent of early Genesis. This UK 1st pressing really is a lovely copy.

A true "under the radar" early 70's prog/rock gem. UK 1st pressings in condition as impressive as this are now becoming hard to find. A welcome addition to any serious rock vinyl collection.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 50 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but during the past 30 years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boot sales, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I am now retired and take great delight in being able to spend more time scouring the country and attending boot sales and auctions in the hope of unearthing more vinyl gems...I am 65 years of age now and am still discovering bands and music of the 60's and 70's that I have never come across before. On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
