Matrice du label / BIEM

Pochette VG+ : très bon état, tranches en très bon état, léger blanchissement des coins, pochette et gatefold très propre
Disque VG : bon état, quelques grésillements perceptibles dans les passages calmes, écoute claire et dynamique

Just like the début Rare Bird album, I knew this would become a favourite after about three seconds. As before, it starts with a simple few notes on the Hammond but I knew, or certainly hoped, that it was going to be representable of the rest of the album and thankfully it was. There was still no guitar for this first Rare Bird phase, with Graham Field using mainly Hammond, although he does employ a synth of some type to emulate some guitar sounds. He also plays some piano, which I think is all electric and some harpsichord, also probably electric. The formulae is the same as the first album, very melodic with lots of variety and extremes of dynamics. Most of the melodic interest is carried by the Hammond and any lover of the instrument would surely find lots to enjoy here. As usual, the vocal performance of Steve Gould is excellent. In the long suite "Flight" they paraphrase Ravel's Bolero.

Sound quality: I have never heard the vinyl nor have I heard the recent Esoteric issues. I'd expect the latter to sound good as they have an excellent track record in remastering. That said, these issues from Red Fox are pretty good with plenty of depth.

After this Album Graham Field and his Hammond left the band and their style changed considerably, although they still managed two very good albums before the decline set in with a very weak fifth album. For more Field and his mighty Hammond try his own band, Fields who continue with much more of the same.

Superb album and one I play a lot.
