!!!4th PROOF COVER!!!
This really was the birth of progressive rock! It was the Beatles' 9th Lp and what an imapact it had. and still does have. Released on the 1st of June 1967, the album reached number 1 across the board, staying at number 1 for 23 weeks!! With a total of 148 weeks in the charts!!
This copy:It is the really rather rare 4th Proof pressing
Catalogue number: PMC 7027
Matrix Number Side 1: XEX 637-1
Matrix Number Side 2: XEX 638-1
Stampers Side 1: 2 @ 9 O'clock RDR @ 3 O'clock
Stampers Side 2: 4 @ 9 O'clock GHT @ 3 O'clock
Vinyl: VG....Lovely shine and as flat as the day it was bought. There are quite a few LIGHT marks, but having just finished listening to the record I found there to be just a small amount of background crackle and one very small skip at the start of track 1 side 1, which would be reduced if not overcome with a professional clean or maybe a slightly heavier stylus.
Labels: VG+ Lovely and clean. Light spindle marks evident when angled to the light, and a slight bit of hole wear to both sides. "KT" tax code to side 1.
"The Gramophone Co. Ltd..." rim text
"Sold in the UK" central statement.
?Inner Sleeve: EX, near mint plain white inner "Made In Great Britain"
Cut-Outs: Sorry, not present.
Cover: VG-RARE 4th PROOF
These were accidentally released in TINY quantities as they were never meant for the general public-This is what makes them so incredibly rare.
They can be identified by a number of pointers:
Back cover: "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents Pending."
Inside flipback: "Fourth Proof" top right corner.
"AR. D1821" near the spine on the right gatefold.
The front cover is still lovely and bright, as is the back cover and the inner picture..Bright, BRIGHT! The down side is quite a bit of wear. Many areas of spidering, as well as a split to the back cover opening of 3.5cm. There are a couple of pin-holes through the cover too. Also some slight knocks to the corners. The spine is very worn. I am being as honest as possible, so bid with confidence.
This would make a great filler for it's rareity...Until you get that all illusive NMint copy....They don't come up for auction very often at all.

Just a little note on grading: 'Mint' means I have just stepped out of the record shop in the 60's, never opened the record and kept it in fantastic dry and warm condtitons...unlikely isn't it!!
