Both recordings were made for bandleader Al Browne in 1959. However, they were not issued until a number of years later, when Al Browne gave the rights away, Al Browne discovered many great groups, like the Crests and Roulettes, and recorded the Heartbeats, Elegants, Neons, Eddie & the Starlets, Crescents, Gaudiness, and numerous other well known groups.
When the master tapes for the recordings was found, it did not identify the group. While Al Browne initially thought that the group could have been the Roulettes or the Fascinators, Some Gentlemen who worked for Al Browne decided that since he was not certain as to who they were, a more generic name would be appropriate and he named them the Fascinations. *While Al Browne did not remember the group’s actual name, or if in fact, they had a name, he did recall that the group was racially mixed with 5 male members.) Later investigation revealed that they were not the Fascinators and were most likely not the Roulettes.
A total of only 500 copies of A&G 101 were pressed. However, after selling about half that amount, the balance of the records were accidentally destroyed.
