Description

Step into 1959 with this original Harvard Records issue by The Sonics featuring Donald Sheffield, a powerful New Jersey doo-wop rarity: “This Broken Heart” b/w “You Made Me Cry.”

This is the true first pressing, Harvard 801, carrying the correct etched matrix numbers:

• A-side: M 6055

• B-side: M 6056

These are the authentic identifiers prized by serious collectors.

Condition

VG — Light surface scuffing and groove wear. Labels show wear, X-marks, and a hand-etched “1960” date, but the record plays through and retains good fidelity for a 65-year-old doo-wop 45.

Provenance

This copy comes from the private collection of a legendary Detroit crate-digger and one-time DJ, known for protecting his records with label taping, handwritten dates, and careful sorting marks.

Those exact preservation signatures appear here: faint tape residue, handwritten “1960,” and DJ-style X coding. These add a touch of lived history, marking this as a piece once pulled from deep inside Detroit’s vinyl underworld.

A buyer isn’t just getting a 45 — they’re getting “a piece of rock history from an epic collection of rare 45’s, filled with dj copies and promos of early northern soul, doo-woo, rockabilly, detroit garage and psyche rock.”
