Description

A VERY GOOD COPY OF THIS FRENCH CLASSIC FROM THE GREAT EDITH PIAF ON A RARE UK COLUMBIA EXPORT 78

If there’s anything to be said about the life of Edith Piaf, it’s that it was an eventful one. Born Édith Giovanna Gassion (Piaf means ’sparrow’ and was a nickname-turned-stagename) in 1915, her life was doused in tragedy right from the start - her father left her to join the war effort in 1916, at the age of 3 she became blind, at 8 she became deaf, at 16 she had a daughter that died of meningitis shortly after birth. She lost the love of her life, a boxer, in a plane crash in 1949.

"La vie en rose" was the signature song of French singer, Édith Piaf.

Piaf first popularized the song in 1946. The lyrics were written by Piaf and the melody of the song by "Louiguy" (Louis Gugliemi). Initially, Piaf's peers and her songwriting team did not think the song would be successful, but it became a favorite with audiences.
