Description

Here's a beautiful stock copy of Rochell & the Candles with Johnny Wyatt doing "Let's Run Away and Get Married" b/w "Annie's Not an Orphan Anymore" (Challenge 9191). Released in 1963. The A side, "Let's Run Away and Get Married" was co-written by Dave Burgess and Gary Usher. Strangely, Usher's credit was dropped from stock copies (his name appears on promo copies only--I've included a photo of a promo copy for reference. It is NOT for sale here). Perhaps there was some legal issue--or just outright confusion--over the fact that Gary Usher co-wrote a similarly titled (and themed) song with Brian Wilson called "We'll Run Away" which appeared on the Beach Boys LP "All Summer Long" in 1964. But the two songs are nothing alike. So who knows.
Anyway, this is still a highly collectible item. And regardless of who wrote the A side, it's a killer record. Really funky. And the vinyl is very nice--super high gloss and only a few small scuffs. EX- condition. Labels show just a hint of some wear, and there's an X on the A side (see photo).
