Debut single
Even though this looks a lot older, this Ep is from Christmas of 1955. It’s got three songs from Earney Vandagriff and one from 14-year old Joe Poovey. While just a kid, he formed a group, the Hillbilly Boys, and started weekly broadcasts on radio station KRLD, soon followed by work as a disc jockey on the "Big D Jamboree" radio show.
This appears to be his first recording and is one track on this rare 4-song EP from Rural Rhythm Records.
It wouldn’t be long after this that recorded "Move Around" on the Dixie label, following it the next year with the frantic rocker "Ten Long Fingers", a tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis
So here you go, a rare slice of pre-rocker Joe Poovey singing “Santa’s Helper” (written by his dad), coupled up with “Be Bop Santa Claus,” “You Can’t Come In,” and “Christmas Filled With Cheer” by Earney Vandagriff. This is probably the only EP ever released by the little Rural Rhythm label.
