I currently have up for auction two of the rarest releases on the highly collectable Deram label, John Cameron Quartet Off Centre and The Web Fully Interlocking. Do not miss this opportunity to own one or both of these increasingly elusive releases, mint copies often change hands for well in excess of £100. These albums are certified Record Digger's gems with samples galore...Off Centre (1969 Deram) is John Cameron's only solo Jazz recording. A small band, comprised of the incomparable talents of Danny Thompson on Upright Bass, Tony Carr on Percussion and Harold McNair on Flute, Alto & Tenor Sax. Led on Piano by the man, the legend, the superb composer/arranger who bought you the best of the KPM library catalogue (Afro Rock, Jazz Rock, etc), the CCS Big Band and the Psych Jazz Prog Funk of the Psychomania soundtrack (cited as a major influence by Portishead). What could be better, only the fact that here we have a Mint (US) copy, in both vinyl and cover, which is still in the shrink wrap (some would call it M- only in that it is not still sealed) and these are almost never seen. I actually bought this sealed and it's only ever been out of the cover a couple of times. This is what Dusty Groove.com had to say about the recording; " A landmark session from the British scene of the late 60s -- one of the few small group jazz recordings done by pianist/arranger John Cameron, and a cracker of a set from start to finish! The record's got a very angular, very rhythmic groove -- one that almost reminds us of the best 60s work of Roland Kirk at times -- which is no surprise, as the great Kirk-influenced Harold McNair performs on the session with some lovely work on flute and tenor! But there's also a deeper sense of color and tone here than most of Roland's work -- one that's informed by Cameron's rich array of work in the soundtrack and sound library scene -- and which comes off with a gentle, casual quality that makes for some extremely compelling tunes. The record's got some fantastic modal numbers that are right up there in the best Gilles Peterson Impressed vein -- and titles include "Troublemaker", "Go Away Come Back Another Day", "Off Centre", "Dafina Querida", "Omah Cheyenne", and "Splat".
