Now about the record:

Led Zeppelin II  LP original 1st press
Catalog #: SD 8236
MATRIX : ST-A-691671  RL SS  /  ST-A-691672  RL

Very hard to find Robert Ludwig mastered pressing from Sterling disk of NYC indicated by the "RL" initials next to the SS stamped in the dead wax.  For those in the know, Bob Ludwig is one of the two or three best mastering engineers in the world. His talent for revealing clarity, spaciousness and life-like dynamics from the master tapes that translates to outstanding vinyl resolution is legendary. The bass is louder and the middle ranges are much more pronounced. The dynamics of these versions were causing tonearms to bounce off the record.  A concerned previous owner notes in pencil on the inner gatefold, "DONT PLAY".  Ludwig mastered pressings of this album are rare.

THE RECORD  VG+ Visibly, there are a few light handling scuffs and a couple of light scratches that don't appear to affect play. With headphones I have listened carefully through both sides.  In a few of the quiet spots there is sometimes that characteristic vinyl tick. More so on Side 1, where the biggest issue is with the track, "What Is And What Should Be".  During the dead wax entry there are a couple pops, and another halfway through the song.  Nine grooves in, there is some intermittent distortion during the phrase "...it's to a castle I will take you...".  This appears to be a pressing defect. The remainder of side one is without issues.  Side 2 has 2 pops during the drum solo in Moby Dick, otherwise it's noise-free.

THE JACKET  VG+ For its age the jacket is still sharp and crisp, no corner dings.  The VG+ grading of the jacket is because of a some wear on edges,  a staple hole at upper left,  and the "DONT PLAY" notation penciled on inside of gatefold,
