A VG+ copy of this supremely rare Marv Johnson record . A minor, unfeelable discolouring blemish on side 2 does not affect play.
Contentiously written and produced by what would become the Tamla Motown team the song charted at no7 in the UK early in 1960 Copies on 78 are incredibly hard to come across. The last one listed on this platform was in 2011( like yesterday for me but actually over a decade now).
Bizarrely this copy turned up in what was otherwise a back catalogue of Perry Como 78s. ( Perry Como fans please contact vendor. Urgently)
Bobby Parker has a very reasonable claim to penning the song having recorded it for Vee Jay records the previous year but....
" then Berry Gordy just stole it out from under me, just put his name on it. And what could I do? I was just trying to make a living, playing guitar and singing, how was I going to go on and fight Berry Gordy, big as he was, and Motown Records? There wasn't really nothing I could do about it - it was just too big and I didn't have any way to fight them..."
A rare opportunity to own the "original" version of the song, if you're not Bobby Parker, later covered by both the Dave Clark Five and more importantly Showaddywaddy in 1977.
All 78s are carefully packaged in card, bubble wrap and void before being sent first class in a doubleskin box.
