1965 - UK CBS LABEL MONO CONTRACT PRESSING BY EMI

INCREDIBLY RARE AND UNUSUAL ORIGINAL DYLAN ALBUM PRESSED BY EMI, HAYES MIDDLESEX.

During the sixties, high demand for certain records meant that companies were unable to manufacture thier records as fast as they were selling, so would contract out work to other pressing plants.  The EMI Beatles contracted pressings to Decca, Pye and Philips are well documented, athough not always correctly identified as many of those described as Pye contract pressings were actually made by Oriole in London, whose pressing plant was taken over by CBS in 1965.  Anyhow, I digress.  CBS often contracted out to Philips, but very rarely to EMI.  What is even more unusual about this particular record is that it has the EMI stamper codes stamped into the dead wax (not usually done by EMI when manufacturing under contract).  This code reveals that EMI pressed at least 16,000 copies on behalf of CBS as this record is from the 16th batch of 1,000 to leave the factory.  EMI stamper codes translate as follows: G=1, R=2, A=3, M=4, so on and so forth.  In short, this is a very rare record indeed and, as far as I am aware, undocumented.  In stunning near mint condition, this is 'comodity' vinyl, so invest now whilst you have the chance.

I try to play grade as many records as possible, but it is not always possible to do this, so if you feel that any record you have purchased is not graded accurately, please let me know.  I offer a ‘no quibble’ refund on any item if you are not 100% happy with it, provided you have not left negative feed back before contacting me.  Records which have been ‘play graded’ have been done so in my home studio on broadcast quality equipment at a comfortable listening volume.  All equipment is professional grade and includes EMT turntables, Alice (BBC spec. mixing desk), Denon (professional) amplifier and Bose 802 (installation) monitor speakers.  You may have a more or less sensitive HiFi system than this, but I believe that it provides a fair ‘industry reference’ quality grading.  Of course grading will always be subjective to some extent, which is why I offer a ‘no quibble’ refund as outlined above, should you not agree with my grading.  By way of clarification, the RRPG grading descriptions are listed below:  I will on occasions use + and – signs to indicate a grading which falls between the following descriptions in order to give a more accurate idea of condition.

E.G. M- (near mint), EX+, EX-, VG+, VG-, G+.

M – Mint - Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EX – Excellent - Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VG – Very Good - Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

G – Good - Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

F – Fair - Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

P – Poor - Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

B – Bad -  Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
