Description
Alright Northern Soul fans get ready for this one. This came out of a home in Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday morning October 10th. I am not going too far when I say I don’t think you will ever see this record offered again on eBay. John Manship doesn’t even have it in his latest price guide nor does Jerry Osborne. I called my good friend DJ “Mad Lad” Robert Goins and woke him up (not on purpose) to ask him about it and he flipped over it. He couldn’t believe I had found a copy of this Megatone rarity (no more than 500 ever existed and in some cases fewer copies were printed).
“DJ Mad Lad” has told me the history of the Jivers and Megatone as follows: He says that "the Jivers records on Megatone were recorded in Dawson Smiths basement! I have spoken in the past to Dawson and Robert Tanner here in Lynchburg and they have verified it as well. It was on a one-channel recorder! They had cardboard partitions to separate the instruments! He says only 500 records for each song were printed! He used to play them on WJJS where he worked , but that was about the only exposure they received. Please check out “Lad’s” website at http://www.djmadlad.com/ for lots more details on the Jivers and other great music trivia.
Now to the details the A side is How I Feel by Little Lewis (Melvin Lewis) music by the Jivers # MT 102 with SON 54091 etched in the deadwax. This is a song written and recorded by Robert Tanner. I believe Little Lewis’s version is a little more soulful (not better just more soulful).
The flipside is “Next to Me” written by Dawson Smith and is a great up tempo number with SON 54091 etched in the deadwax.
Both sides play through with no skips, but there is some surface noise on both sides as you will hear in the clips I have provided.
I will not end the auction early so please no request to do that. The record will need to be insured either in the U.S. or internationally in order to qualify for a refund.
I have sold both Robert Tanner singles and I started them the same place as I am starting this one at $9.99.
