Offered here is a rare promotional 45 by The Motivations, featuring “Motivate” backed with “The Birds.” Issued on Pride Records, catalog #301, this is an original 1966 white-label DJ promo marked “PROMOTIONAL COPY – NOT FOR SALE.”
“Motivate” is punchy, driving Detroit soul—tight rhythm section, urgent vocals, and that unmistakable Motor City snap. The flip, “The Birds,” leans rawer and more garage-tinged, making this a two-sided winner for Northern Soul and deep-soul DJs alike.

Condition:
Vinyl is VG. Visible surface scuffs and light marks consistent with DJ use, but no cracks or warps. Labels show age, writing, and handling typical of promotional copies from the era. A solid play copy with authentic radio-station wear—nothing modern or glossy about this survivor.
This copy comes from the private collection of a legendary Detroit crate-digger and one-time DJ and bears the marks of his preservation techniques, including light label wear consistent with radio handling. Provenance matters here: this is a “piece of rock history from an epic collection of rare 45’s, filled with dj copies and promos of early northern soul, doo-woo, rockabilly, detroit garage and psyche rock.”
