Description
You arebidding on an early Orange Wax 45 rpm record by
ARTHUR “Big Boy” CRUDUP
Titled – “That’s All Right (mama)” & “Crudup’s After Hours”
It is on theRCA label #50-0000 from 1949 and was the inspiration for Elvis Presley torecord this as his first record on SUN label in 1954.
Condition: A very strong VG++.
Has been inmy collection for 30+ years – smoke free environment.
From the internet: He was born inForest, Mississippi and living and worked throughout the South and Midwest as amigrant worker for a time. He sang gospel, then began his career as a bluessinger around Clarksdale, Mississippi. He visited Chicago as member of theHarmonizing Four in 1939 and stayed there to work as a solo musician, butbarely made a living as a street singer. Record producer, Lester Melroseallegedly found him while he was living in a packing crate, introduced him toTampa Red and signed him to a recording contract with RCA Victor's Bluebirdlabel.
Herecorded with RCA in the late 1940s and with Ace Records, Checker Records andTrumpet Records in the early 1950s and toured throughout the country,specifically black establishments in the South, with Sonny Boy Williamson IIand Elmore James (around 1948). He also recorded under the names Elmer Jamesand Percy Lee Crudup. He was popular in the South with records such as"Mean Old 'Frisco Blues", "Who's Been Foolin' You" and"That's All Right".
Therewas some confusion as to his actual date of death because of his use of severalnames, including those of his siblings. He died in the Nassawadox hospital inNorthampton County, Virginia in 1974.
