A superb album from Crimson featuring one of the most intense tracks I've heard on a prog rock album to date in the title track of the lp. An unusual cover with the interior pressed upside-down to the front, which is different from any other copy I have seen making this quite unique. Visually there is a feint scuff on the a-side and a scuff across the b-side with a couple of feint hairline marks and plays well. For the quiet sections, of which there are many, like the very quiet album intro, A3 being very quiet acoustic into flute, B1 & B2 having very quiet intros, acoustic and abstract piano, there is crackle and background crackle present which is common on a lot of old recordings in a folk or minimal style. A1 is very heavy when it gets going, reminiscent of same era Black Sabbath in style, A4 is just amazing and playing great, most of side b blurs into a sprawling soundscape that is very loud and therefore plays fine for the most part aside from the quiet start and end, and there are 7 pops on the long organ intro to B2s start. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable listen with some amazing moments and a unique cover to boot.
