EYE-POPPING 1970 ***WHITE LABEL PROMO**** with the original LED ZEPPELIN III song listings sticker on front WHEEL cover...since most all folks who bought the 1970 original tore off the cellphane to spin the wheel cover, there went the (rare) sticker too, remains very scarce and collectible in itself. The promo came with the rare sticker placed on the front cover sans shrink wrap = it was never issued with.

Old white label promo's of popular rock bands from the late 60's to early 70's and beyond have long been hunted by collectors as the pressings were limited, only sent out to select news media and radio stations for review purposes. tHe white label pressings were the first to be pressed off the freshly cut masters and retain the best sound quality. Major albums (such as this) with white promo labels have long been very scarce (mega rare these days) and in private collections...

Many people know this album as the record that contains the immortal "Immigrant Song". Usually, this is about as far as the average self-described "Led-Head" has cut their little baby teeth into prior to purchasing the album. And why not? It is a hit song if I've ever seen one. Galloping rhythms, trademark Robert Plant wails, groovin' drums and bass, etc. And yet, this is possibly the most over-valued song on a very under-respected album. While many of you sit back and attempt to take in the blasphemous statement I've just made, allow me to elaborate. The track is undoubtedly a Zeppelin classic, but it is fairly over praised. Only two-and-a-half minutes on length simply can't compare to the mournful genius of something like the seven-and-a-half minute long blues masterpiece "Since I've Been Loving You". It is obvious that length doesn' necessarily equal quality, but in those seven minutes, the band says far much more musically than the opener ever could, banshee-wailing or not.

The production through out is loaded with amusing gimmicks like phasing, primitive synthesizers, creepy string arrangements, distorted vocals, and acoustic instrumentation, and it never gets dull. Of course, some of the country-blues and folk influences they parade around already had been assimilated by other British rockers like the Stones. But Jimmy Page actually has it down better than they do ("Tangerine"), while Robert Plant adds to the stew by getting memorably weird on some of the tracks ("Gallows Pole").

Plant loved Tolkien and Page loved the occult, they put them on a banner and wave them around. Gentle and breezy and folky, but they inject suitable amounts of skull-crackingly intense rockers....

CONDITION: The wheel cover is VG++ small shelf wear and nothing much at all, mostly lightly on the sticker, otherwise, solid, and remains a TOP flight collectible of the rock era...also with a promo sticker on front cover, lower left. 

The vinyl with white promo label is "VG" having LIGHT small hairlines, playing extremely well with only light surface in quiet areas...vast amounts playing without any notice.

The labels are CLEAN withour problem of any kind.

      A cool addition to anyone's music library!
