This important early country music record contains two performances from the historic 1927 Bristol Sessions, frequently described as a foundational event in the development of commercial country music.
“The Storms Are on the Ocean” was recorded August 1, 1927, and “Single Girl, Married Girl” was recorded August 2, 1927, in Bristol, Tennessee.
This appears to be the original 1927 Victor issue rather than the later mixed-label repress. Both sides display the early Victor Talking Machine Company scroll-style label.
Includes the vintage illustrated Challenge Records paper sleeve shown in the photographs. The sleeve is a period Sears, Roebuck-era sleeve and is not represented as the record’s original matched Victor sleeve.
Condition:
- Record retains very strong gloss
- Surfaces appear exceptionally clean overall for their age
- Only light surface marks or sleeve wear visible under bright angled lighting
- No deep scratches observed
- No cracks or significant edge chips observed
- Labels remain attractive with light center-hole and spindle wear
- VE marking is stamped into the record near the label
- Record has not been play-tested, so playback quality is not guaranteed
- Vintage Challenge paper sleeve has age toning, creases, edge wear, tears and splitting
- Please examine all photographs closely for exact cosmetic condition
This fragile shellac record will be packed securely between multiple layers of rigid cardboard with surrounding cushioning and shipped in an oversized protective box.
