Description
Up for auction is a Scarce, Hand-Signed 7” 45rpm of “Everyday with Peggy Sue” and “Little Girl Holly”. Portland, OR: Red Robin Records, 1988. The sleeve of this scarce 45 is signed by Peggy Sue Rackham, the “Peggy Sue” who inspired the song by Buddy Holly, released in July 1957 (as Coral 9-61885). According to a 1993 article:
The original song was at first called 'Cindy Lou' until Jerry Allison, the Crickets' drummer and the tune's co-composer, asked Holly if they might retitle it in honor of his girlfriend, whom he'd met at Lubbock High School and was still trying to impress. It worked: a year later, the song had sold a million copies and Jerry had eloped with Peggy Sue to Honeygrove, Texas, where, on 22 July 1958, they were married at a ceremony performed by the drummer's uncle. So Buddy wrote the lightly heart-stricken 'Peggy Sue Got Married': 'You recall the girl that's been in nearly every song / This is what I heard / Of course, the story could be wrong . . .
This is also signed by singer Bill Coleman – on the record sleeve and the record label. The recording was done I Lubbock, Texas and features recitation by Peggy Sue on the 45. The sleeve includes photographs and an essay about Buddy Holly. Record and sleeve are in excellent condition.
