Description
Here is an obscure surf single by Sam Eddy with The Revels, doing "Skip to My Lou" b/w "Lonely Walk" (Daco 702). Released in 1961. This record was also released on the Accent label (Accent 1085). The A side is a public domain song (hence the PD listed in the credits) arranged by Sam Eddy. The flip is written by Floyd Gaines, who was a member of the surf band Jim Waller and the Deltas, from Fresno, California.
Sam Eddy was actually a member of The Revels, though it's unclear if was still an active member at the time of this single's released. Originally known as Gil Serna and the Rockets, The Revels formed in 1957 with Sam Eddy on piano, Gil Serna on lead vocals, Norman Knowles on saxophone, Dan Arnold on guitar, Jim Macrae on drums, and Brian England on bass. Gil Serna left the band in 1960 and was replaced by Dave Davis on guitar. Their first single was "Six Pack" b/w "Good Grief" frist on the Lynn label, then again on the Swinging label. One of the band's last singles, "Soft Top" features a song on the flip written by Sam Eddy, "It's Party Time." The song also appears on the band's only LP, "Revels on a Rampage" (1LP-IMX).
The band is perhaps best known for their version of the song "Comanche" which was featured in the Quentin Tarantino film, Pulp Fiction.
Record is in VG+ condition. Labels are clean--no writing, stickers, or tears. Some very minor wear. Vinyl is clean as well, with high gloss--there are a few light scuffs visible (they do not affect play), more so on the "Lonely Walk" side. Slight warp that does not affect play. Overall, a very nice copy.
