VERY RARE! Songs of the Middle Way - Eleanor Wallace, with Lute and Guitar Accompaniment (Vinyl LP EW-MRC) 
Extremely rare and much sought after self-published pre-psych folk album from 1966. Very little is known of this singer, but those who heard her perform in and around Carmel, California, or listened to her records remember her even now.  Some say she sounds like Joan Baez only better, but I have to say she reminds me a bit of Eva Cassidy, or what Eva Cassidy would have sounded like in a folksy acoustic setting, very lyrical and hauntingly beautiful, and she even writes her own stuff! 
Another reviewer says: "For many people modern folk music begins with the psychedelic wave represented by Linda Perhacs and Vashti Bunyan. But I almost prefer the buildup that happened between the coffeehouse scene and acid.  'Songs Of The Middle Way' dates to 1966 and sounds like it. No psych moves, only a stirring discontent with accepted reality, razor sharp lyrics, and the lilt of a nightingale.  Eleanor Wallace sounds like a person who has seen the truth and is struggling to reconcile that truth with the way she was raised. A few copies of this album have sold at auction in the last five years or so for several hundred dollars. There are a couple of barely noticeable surface scuffs on the disc but it otherwise shines, evidence that it was played a few times only, then put away. The jacket is still in the shrink wrap and very clean, but has trace evidence of a water stain (about 1½") in the bottom right corner.  This album would be a welcome addition to any folk music aficionado's collection.  Quite frankly, if you don't like it, send it back and I will probably keep it for myself!
Note:  It was extremely difficult to get decent photos of the vinyl because of background glare. If anybody has any suggestions for better images let me know.
